Copperworks was founded in 1981 by John Strong, continued after John passed in 2009, and closed fabrication operations in 2019. In those 38 years, Copperworks created custom range hoods, countertops and other products for businesses and homeowners throughout the United States.

Based in Sonoma County, California, Copperworks served the San Francisco Bay Area for decades by creating custom products. In 2005, Copperworks packaged and shipped their first range hood out of the area - to North Carolina. Within two years, Copperworks was shipping range hoods nationwide regularly and even had their work appear on the popular ABC TV show, Extreme Makeover: Home Edition.

During the Great Recession, Copperworks expanded their shipping to include copper countertops. While it was not always easy to find customers who would handle the measuring and installation of countertops, Copperworks began to excel at countertop production based on supplied measurements.

In 2019, many of the fabricators and staff of Copperworks were ready for new ventures and recruiting new trainees proved extremely difficult with historically low unemployment rates, a booming construction industry (rebuilding after 2017 wildfires), and a nascent, but growing, cannabis industry. At the end of July 2019, Copperworks shipped its last hood and countertop and turned off the lights.
